Unlike classic kaleidoscopes, which create patterns from small pieces inside the instrument, teleidoscopes create kaleidoscopic patterns from objects around you.

In contrast to the kaleidoscope, however, there is no chamber with glass stones or the like at the front end of the teleidoscope, but an opening with a lens/converging lens that allows a view of the surroundings.
